Our 13-14 Boys Sonics 4×800 relay team, which finished 4th at this past summer’s AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, IA, was recently featured in the December edition of Boy’s Life magazine, the national publication for the Boy Scouts of America. Half of this team, namely Isaiah Bocock and Nathan Bui, are active Boy Scouts members and thus Traci Bocock, Isaiah’s mother, had the idea of sharing the news of their big accomplishment. Congratulations once again to Isaiah, Nathan, Todd Woods, and Andy Jiang for your medal-winning effort and to Traci for helping to get them recognized in print!

Sonics Relays – Call For Volunteers
The 24th Annual Sonics Relays will be held Saturday, May 12 at Klein Memorial Stadium. This is traditionally one of the largest and most well-run meets in the AAU Gulf District and maintaining this high standard requires lots and lots of VOLUNTEERS! If you are connected with the Sonics in some manner, please consider lending a hand during the meet and invite your friends and family members as well! We’ve set a list of roles needing to be filled at the following link. Just scan through the list and choose one that fits your availability. It’s that simple!

Houston Pace Setters host first meet of 2018 season
This Saturday, March 17, the Houston Pace Setters will be hosting the season-opening meet at The Rig in Pearland. Please download the flyer for all relevant details: http://www.houstonsonics.com/wp-content/docs/2018_Pacesetters_meet.pdf. If you plan to attend this meet, look for one of the Sonics coaches near the main entrance or the Sonics tent (orange and purple) inside the stadium. Most of the athletes, and particularly our new members, will be asked to run the 100m and 400m events as they serve as good baselines for tracking their development. If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact one of your Sonics coaches to discuss.
Alright Sonics, let’s get this season started with a bang!
Sonics 2018 track season set to begin
Spring is just around the corner and so is a new season of AAU youth track and field! We always begin our seasons with a series of Saturday conditioning sessions to start getting the kids in shape in preparation for the meets that begin in mid-March. For our north side group, these sessions will begin this Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 AM at Klein High School, 16715 Stuebner-Airline Rd. in Spring. Our south side group will have their first session the following Saturday, February 24 at 1:00 PM at Sharpstown High School, 7504 Bissonnet St., Houston. These sessions can be expected to last approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours.
If you are new to the Sonics, we invite you to bring your young athletes out to one of these sessions to see what we’re all about before you make the commitment to join. Please make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather and fitted with shoes suitable for running. Also be sure to bring plenty of water so they can stay properly hydrated.
The plan is to continue these Saturday sessions through March 10, weather permitting, after which we will transition into our weeknight schedule (details to come in a future email). We look forward to seeing you all at the track!
